ANGELA MARINESCU

ANGELA MARINESCU was born in 1941, in Arad. Afflicted with a severe form of consumption between 15 and 26 years of age, she decided to study medicine and psychology. First poems published in „Tribuna” review in Cluj, 1965 and first volume (Blue Blooded) published in 1969. 13 volumes published so far, mostly poetry, amongst which The Cock Has Hidden in the Cut (1996), and Postmodern Fugues (2000). She also published a volume of essays, The Village Where I Used to Walk with a Shaved Head, in 1996. Winner of several literay awards, such as Nichita Stănescu Award (in 1990), and Writer’s Union Award (in 2000). In September 2006 she was awarded the „Mihai Eminescu” National Poetry Award for opera omnia, during a festivity held at the Drama Theatre in Botoșani. She published more than 15 volumes of poems.
